Trail Magic

Day 3…Stover Creek Shelter to Woody Gap. 17.7 miles

So much for starting out slow, lol. My original destination today was going to be Gooch Mountain Shelter, 13 miles. But I couldn’t bring myself to stop at 3pm, so I pushed on. And it was a hard push. The only drawback to camping here is that it is a Gap, so there is traffic. Hopefully it doesn’t run all night.

Thomas decided to turn back this morning. His hip was still giving him an incredible amount of pain. I hope he makes it back safely.

Vincent, whom I met yesterday, revealed his self given trail name today-Dingo. He said he’d rather name himself than end up with something silly. We leap frogged back and forth most of the day, but I didn’t feel the push for another 3+ miles to catch up with him.

I met two other guys, both named Matt, who are hiking to North Carolina. They are going at a more moderate pace, like me, and are planning to be there by Friday.

The views were amazing today!!! With every incredibly tough climb, came that reward and made it so worth it. When I looked out and back, I couldn’t believe the mountains I had climbed!

I had my first trail magic today too! An ice cold Coors Light at one of the gaps. It was probably the best beer I’ve ever had! Haha.

But Trail Magic comes in many ways, like your comments and words of encouragement. Again, I can’t thank you all enough.

Leanna flew back home today and that puts her even farther away. It’s truly amazing the bond of love we have for one another. I can’t explain how it hurts to have this distance between us. But I can’t thank her enough for her motivation and support. She truly is amazing!

I watched the sun set tonight over the Gap and thought of how truly lucky I am to have your love baby. I miss you most!

  1. And when you finish you’ll wonder how time passed so quickly. And then, after the planning and anticipation, then you’ll feel a loss that it’s over.
