Hold My Hand

Day 7 Sassafras Gap to Dick’s Creek Gap w/ a nero in Hiawassee. 6.3 miles. Mile marker 69

Today we crushed the miles!!! It was only a short hike, but we started with a 800′ climb straight up. I don’t know if it was the amazing sunrise, the call of a burger and pizza (and TWO salads), the hotel bed, the shower, the clean laundry, the hot tub….maybe it was all of them. But we knocked it out in 2&1/2 hours!

Our shuttle driver was AMAZING! Her and I had an awesome talk on the way to town. She was from the St. Pete area an even knew Frostproof! Then I found out how she loved to kayak and Camp and had done the Peace River many times. What a small world!

Our first stop was the hotel for clean up. Then we headed to Barney’s for a salad, burger and beer. Next. Got another visit from the amazing Sue, who brought my resupply PLUS, we got some more talk time. She has been an amazing Trail Angel for me! Then we went to Ingles for a few resupply needs, and I picked up another salad. We had pizza, and yes another beer, lol, for dinner. (I think I’ve earned a couple beers) I saved the salad for last.

From there, it was on to the hot tub to soak and relax. Finally, I finished with catching up on all the updates on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube and here.

Tomorrow, we – AZ Cruiser, Fuego and I – will enjoy a nice breakfast before heading back out to the trail around 8am. We have a big day, with a big climb and some decent mileage planned.

The BEST part of the day happened as I was coming down the trail, I had my headphones on (sometimes I sing out loud too, when I’m not gasping for air) and Hootie and the Blowfish came on – Hold My Hand- and I actually found myself with my hand out by my side and I knew yours was there babe. You have supported me so much and I am so thankful to have you by my side. I love you! 💕

Tomorrow, we are back on trail and headed north. We only have 8.9 miles to the Georgia border and then it’s one state down and thirteen to go as we head into North Carolina.

  1. Nice that you had a good relaxing, recharging day. Singing out loud helps, I do it all the time when I walk. Continue to be safe. Remember, when you are climbing to a peak, you are getting closer to God. You are fortunate to be experiencing His creation that very few of us will see. Love you, from Gilles and I. ❤️🧗‍♂️
